Mission:

“Contribute to the Sustainable development of the Jordanian Badia environment and the preservation and enhancement of the traditional way of life and the standard of living of the inhabitants, under management systems which conserve the natural resources”

Vision:

The fundamental goal of the Jordan Badia Research and Development Centre (BRDC) is to improve the quality of life for all inhabitants of the Badia through sustainable development while linking the economy through national development policies and plans. In order to attain these goals the BRDC uses the following principles:

  • Conserving natural resources through appropriate management systems, so that production levels will be sustainable in the long term.

  • Optimizing returns from investments already made by people in the region and enhancing the returns on future investments in the region through careful allocation of resources.

  • Responding to the needs of the community and facilitating the transfer of information to the community from all sources.

  • Maintaining a high level of competency within the BRDC by offering continuing education and training to the staff so that they can all remain current within the rapidly changing scientific community.

  • Transferring skills and information from all available sources to the community through appropriate technologies.

  • Training of personnel to the highest possible levels to provide a specialized research and development staff for the Badia region to train the people of the region, and to transform the Centre's research and development field centre into a centre of excellence in the study and implementation of sustainable development in arid regions.

  • Creating successful pioneer model programs that can be duplicated in other parts of the Badia and in other areas of the country.

  • Enhancing teamwork amongst the inhabitants in order to create self-reliant communities and to limit migration from the region by transforming the Badia into an attractive focal region for productivity, investment and living.

  • Expanding and enhancing eco-tourism opportunities in the Badia.
