Dear readers and browsers,
Since the
establishment of the Badia Research and Development Programme BRDP in 1992, the
management team has been striving to improve work patterns and promoting
institutionalization in its broad form. The noble goal that was set by the
patrons initially (HRH Prince El Hassan Bin Talal and HH the Duke of Kent) has
been and will remain “to work towards the sustainable development of the Badia,
improving quality of life for people with out changing their life style”.
The changes
that took place in the BRDP’s historic track was recently crowned in the
promotion of the programme to a national desert research centre level late in
December 2005. The legislative process was intriguing, but fruit bearing, in
2006 by approving the Badia Research and Development Centres BRDC by-law number
35 under the umbrella of the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST),
giving official mandate over the dry lands of Jordan characterized as the region
within an annual rainfall of less than 200 mm.
My personal
aspirations and contributions are always associated with my colleague’s
achievements and dedication to work, work ethics have always been my prime
concern, and team work is the basic rule to leap forward. Today the (BRDC) has a
wide national and international connections leading to an exceedingly high
quality field scientific research which is geared for the development of the Badia.
At this point,
one can not but revive memories and pay a worthy tribute to those who
contributed in the establishment phase of the BRDP, whether in person or
institutional, of whom I recall: HH Sharifa Zein bint Nasser the Director of
Finance, Dr Abdulrahman El Fataftah, my predecessor, Dr John Hemming and Dr
Roderic Dutton. In addition the Jordan Armed Forces and the Jordan Royal Air
force for their quality and consistent support, the Royal Geographic Society of
UK, the University of Durham, the ODA of UK (now renamed DFID).
The privileged
guidance and care given by HRH Prince El Hassan Bin Talal, in terms of support
and leadership. The over whelming support of HM late King Hussein. The sustained
guidance, support and acclamation of HM King Abdulla II Bin Al Hussein.
